Klopp names his most underrated player; makes Manuel Neuer comparison

Jurgen Klopp has lauded Simon Mignolet with comments that suggest he’s happy with the Belgian as our long-term no.1.

On Saturday, Mignolet’s individual performance won us the game against Stoke, pulling off two jaw-dropping saves from Charlie Adam and then Saido Berahino.

He’s often been criticised by supporters who don’t rate him, but based on the entirety of this season, he’s undeniably done well – bar one or two mistakes.

But as Klopp claims, goalkeepers get reputations for being ‘good’ or ‘bad’, when in fact the lines are blurrier.

“There was never a doubt that Simon is a top ‘keeper,” he told reporters at the Britannia Stadium, cited in Football365.

“I cannot remember the last time he made a big mistake.

“I was a few years in Germany when the whole world was 100 percent sure Manuel Neuer was the best goalkeeper in the world,” he added.

“With all goalkeepers it is about the image. Simon is a fantastic, hard-working guy and this was his day.”

Loris Karius did very well in January too, and without an obvious upgrade who’s available, we can see Klopp sticking with what he’s got…

Joe Hart will be available, but he’s made plenty more errors for Torino this term than Mignolet has.

Would you take the Englishman instead…?
