Eight players who cost the same or more than Mo Salah in 2017, with Drinkwater & Sigurdsson 💰

We’ve compiled this list to show what an absolute bargain Mo Salah was for Liverpool this summer…

After lengthy negotiation, we eventually secured the 25-year-old Egyptian for £37m, potentially rising to a little more, which makes him our record signing.

(So glad someone finally beat Andy Carroll…!)

But in today’s market, that’s nothing when you consider the other players that went for similar or more cash.

Below, we’ve listed some and described what they’ve done so far this term.

Danny Drinkwater to Chelsea – £34m

A substitute. Nothing more. Still can’t get minutes despite N’Golo Kante’s injury.

Andre Silva to AC Milan – £34m

Has yet to score in Serie A.

Paulinho to Barcelona – £36m

Better than many thought, but still a 29-year-old sub who’s technically clumsy.

Federico Bernadeschi to Juventus – £36m

Has been given one start all season and played just 33 minutes in the Champions League.

Corentin Tolisso to Bayern Munich – £37m

Decent start to life in Germany, but doesn’t get in Bayern’s full-strength XI.

Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton – £44m

Hopeless for Ronald Koeman’s struggling Toffees. Yet to score.

Bernardo Silva to Man. City – £45m

A very good player, but a substitute for City, ultimately. Doesn’t offer Salah’s goal threat. Not even close.

Ousmane Dembele to Barca – £94m

A phenomenal talent, but over twice as expensive as Salah with worse numbers. At the moment, the Egyptian is the more effective player.
