Liverpool are not only in the market for a new manager this season but several other key roles within the club, such as a sporting director and one may now be on the market.

As reported on afcb.co.uk: ‘We can confirm that Richard Hughes will depart his position as first-team technical director at the end of the 2023/24 season following an incredibly successful association with the club.’

This news was confirmed by Bournemouth, whilst also reporting that their former captain Simon Francis will take over the role this summer.

With regards to Richard Hughes, it means that the former midfielder is now on the market for a new move – after spending 10 years as part of the club’s recruitment setup.

For the 44-year-old to leave the Cherries after a 16-year relationship as a player and employee, you would assume that it would only be for a big move elsewhere.

With Jorg Schmadtke leaving Merseyside and the search for his replacement well underway, it wouldn’t take too much to think that the Scot could be on our radar.

With a similar role available at Newcastle and experience of working in Italy meaning links abroad are being touted too, it seems there’s going to be several offers on the table for the ex-Atalanta academy player.

Whether this means a move for Michael Edwards is off the table or not, it’s safe to say the rumours will continue to circle for the many vacancies for the Reds.
