Deluded Michael Owen tells Liverpool to sign Paul Pogba

Former striker wants Pogba to replace Steven Gerrard…

BT Sport pundit Michael Owen thinks that Liverpool should target Juventus superstar Paul Pogba to replace Steven Gerrard, the Daily Mail reports.

Pogba, a French international and 2013 Golden Boy winner, is widely regarded as the best young central midfielder in the world, and he’s earned the attention of Real Madrid and Chelsea as a result – having played a key role in The Old Lady’s consecutive Serie A triumphs.

With our captain aged 34, Owen thinks that we should start planning for the future by bringing in a player capable of replacing him.

“Steven Gerrard’s not going to go on forever so the ideal replacement there would probably be someone like Paul Pogba at Juventus,” Owen said.

“He’s an exceptional talent, a young talent that can play in that drive an central midfield role.”

Owen was once regarded as a hero at Anfield, bagging an FA Cup winner in 2001 on the way to a Ballon d’Or award…

After running his contract down at Anfield though and moving to Real Madrid for a reduced fee, some fans turned against the former prodigy.

He then confounded the dislike by signing for Manchester United, and very few Liverpool fans have the time of the day for him anymore.

For us, his comments on Pogba are a little farfetched. The 21-year-old would cost over £50m, and even when we had huge money to spend in the summer (along with the offer of Champions League football), we failed to bring in any world-class players – with Mario Balotelli the highest profile name.

Would Brendan Rodgers like Pogba? Of course. Will it happen? No, it probably won’t.
