Is The S*n seeking revenge?

Posted by

I use Google Adsense to generate a little money to offset the costs of running the site. These adverts are based on a pay-per-click basis so we do not make any money unless someone clicks on the banners or links.

Over the last week, we have been very involved in attacking the S*n and readers of this site know we would never accept any advertising from the Scum. We were very instrumental in getting #dontbuythesun trending on Twitter and I must admit that I taunted the newspaper with my Tweets. But hey, they deserve it after all the Cr*p they have written in their 40 year history.

So this is what they did to get back at us, they purchased advertising on Google’s Adsense and ensured that their banners specifically appear on our site to get LFC supporters upset at us. Well, got to give the scum credit because they were partly successful. Check out the banner above;  to make it worse for me, they targeted the banners to appear in the UK only so I could not see them. Thanks to Grant Barnett who informed me. I was able to put a block on the adverts. If you see another S*n advert popping up please email me antoine@empireofhtekop.com

  1. They targeted Click Liverpool last night with ads promoting Debenhams vouchers. Looks like they’re trying to worm their way in.

  2. How canyou be certain they asked specifically to be on this site? Don’t get me wrong…I am an LFC fan thrpugh and through, and wouldn’t buy that piece of garbage ever, but I’m also a media student her ein Liverpool and curently even discussed the what this paper in particular has been doing for Liverpool and Liverpool supporters in the past. Instead of trying to anger them, they have been trying to win them back sweetly. But that was a while ago so honestly I was wondering now if they can honestly say they want to be put on your site specifically??

    1. Bri maybe it is a coincidental but they must have been targeting Liverpool for sure.

It sounded suspicious that they would do that just a few days after the #dontbuythesun campaign.

  3. The same happened to Click Liverpool’s coverage of last night’s match. The problem has been corrected but it looks like they’re trying to get around AdSense by promoting vouchers for department store Debenham’s with their rag.

Absolutely hate that excuse of a publication with a passion and every time I see it’s tacky chav logo it makes me see red in a big way.

  4. Targeting Liverpool, I agree with, for sure. I just dont think theyre out to get YOU personally haha They’re just trying hard to earn back readers since they’re losing more and more everyday, but trying to seem like the good guys by doing it without offering apologies. Even so, I still wouldnt buy the garbage!

  5. C’mon, everyone who has ever used Google Ads knows how this works. It’s not specifically bought for any website, it’s content related. For example alot of banging about the S*n, therefore the word has been indexed by Google ALOT and an ad of the S*n shown on the site. You are a web dev and know this for sure, m8y.

    1. Veso, so Google must be associating the s*n and “scum” with the newspaper we hate :-)

Love that, no wonder Murdoch has launched a war against Google. Google is smarter than most of their tabloid readers :-)

  6. They haven’t targetted your website or anything like that.

The advert didn’t show up to you because your in America and advertising to people there doesn’t help. If they get people to visit their website from anywhere in the US, it wouldn’t help them and they would spend a certain amount for that click.

They haven’t ‘gotten back at you’ or ‘taken revenge’ mate. The Sun’s ads show up on a lot of sports/football-related websites here that use Google Adsense so they haven’t targetted you.

If you want to block ads from The Sun – you can block thesun.co.uk through Google Adsense.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Liverpool fan and boycott The Sun myself but you’re saying they’ve tried to take revenge – that isn’t the case here.

Don’t think they personally care about a Twitter trending topic mate.
