Former Reds defender Jamie Carragher is desperate for Liverpool to sign Wilfried Bony in January

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has urged the club to sign Wilfried Bony in January, as he believes that the Swansea City striker can fire the Reds back up the Premier League table.

Reports in the Daily Express carry comments from the now Sky Sports pundit, who was speaking after Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, when they started without a recognized striker on the pitch.

On the same day, the Ivorian forward was scoring his eighth goal of the season in the Swans 2-1 defeat to Tottenham, and Carragher believes that the 26-year-old could be the perfect fit for his old side.

Carragher said on Bony: “I hope Liverpool sign him. If Liverpool sign [Mario] Balotelli for £16m, Bony is worth £20m or £25m. I wish Liverpool got him this summer and I hope they’re looking at him in the future.”

The Reds have been without main striker Daniel Sturridge for the most of the season, with Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini scoring just one Premier League goal between them in his absence.

Liverpool are also yet to fully recover from the loss of star man Luis Suarez, who joined Barcelona last summer for a fee of £75m, having scored 31 goals for Brendan Rodgers’ side last season.
