2) Ian Rush (1993-1996)

The iconic striker was handed the captain’s armband in the final years of his second stint at the club. The Reds had been struggling prior to his appointment, and Rush helped inspire something of a revival to see us rise back up the table.

1) Steven Gerrard (2003-Present)

Undoubtedly the greatest captain, and arguably greatest player in Liverpool history. The hero of our 2005 Champions League win, and the inspiration behind our FA Cup success two years later, he’s always been there in our moments of need. He will be sorely missed when he leaves for LA Galaxy next summer.
