The 22-year-old has been out since the start of the season with a knee problem, and hasn’t featured at all this campaign. His enforced absence has been a big disappointment for Rodgers and co, after the defender made impressive strides with his development last season.

However, the England international was today included as part of Jamie Carragher’s squad for the Anfield charity match, which takes place this coming Sunday!

While a specific first-team return date is still unknown, this should come as a huge sign that the youngster is close to making his long-awaited comeback.

It will be interesting to see how the youngster is able to fit into our new-look 3-4-3 formation, which we’ve been using since December, and whether he has the capabilities to play as a wing-back opposite Alberto Moreno.
