Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher’s sides can’t be separated in the Anfield charity match…

It was Balotelli who opened the scoring in the ninth minute. The Italian showed a touch of class as he picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area, and dispatched it into the bottom right hand corner past Brad Jones:

It was a busy start to the game for Jones on his return from injury. The Australian had to be alert to keep out former Reds midfielder Stewart Downing as he went clean through on goal…

Team Carragher did have their second goal soon after. Balotelli was once again at the heart of things, playing an inch-perfect through ball for Chelsea veteran Didier Drogba, who rounded Jones and stabbed home.

At the other end, Team Gerrard finally began to work their way back into the game. Jerome Sinclair forced a decent save from Pepe Reina, after cutting inside from the left. A sign of things to come perhaps!

When Gerrard’s team did pull a goal back, it came through the man himself. Reina stood no chance as the No. 8 coolly tucked the ball away from the spot, finding the top right hand corner…

While there was still time in the first-half to see a moment of brilliance from Thierry Henry!

Into the second-half, and it was time for another couple of former favourites. Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres were given a warm welcome back at Anfield!

It was Suarez who played a crucial role in the equaliser. The Barcelona man was brought down by Jamie Carrgaher, and for the second time in the afternoon, Gerrard dispatched from the spot.

When Gerrard was given a chance to put his feet up ten minutes from time, he was given an incredible reception!

And in the end it was a fair result all round, as the players congratulated each other at full-time.
