Tenuous links between Liverpool and Theo Walcott set to end after contract twist

The chances of a Raheem Sterling – Theo Walcott swap deal begin to fade…

For the last couple of weeks, the papers have been rife with speculation linking Liverpool with a move for Arsenal forward Theo Walcott, with many suggesting his future could be linked to that of Raheem Sterling.

However, that’s all set to change, at least if you listen to the Daily Mirror. According to the tabloid, Walcott is set to resume talks over a new contract with the Gunners within the next two weeks.

The Mirror also references the Sterling saga, attempting to suggest that our apparent desire to replace one contract rebel with another should be enough to compel a player who has spent almost a decade in London to move North.

In contrast, we believe that this is another indication of the media making something out of nothing. Sterling and Walcott are both after new deals, so they’ve been linked with each other’s respective clubs… subtle or what?!

While there are of course no guarantees that Walcott, who’s reportedly after guarantees over first-team football, will put pen to paper on an Emirates Stadium extension, this is certainly a big step in that direction.

Arsene Wenger seems keen for him to stay, while the 26-year-old will know in himself that he’s still on the way back from a long-term injury and is unlikely to be hitting his best form until next season.

What does this mean for Sterling? Well at least it should be one potential future destination chalked off…
