This is someone we simply cannot afford to lose…

Just when we were coming to terms with Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson not having put pen to paper on their perspective new Liverpool deals, another out-of-contract star is beginning to attract attention.

Martin Skrtel’s contract expires at the end of next season and according to the Daily Mirror his potential availability has begun to attract attention from a number of major suitors, most notably Wolfsburg.

Unfortunately, the Bundesliga giants might be an appealing prospect this summer. Dieter Hecking’s side have already sealed Champions League football for the 2015-16 campaign and currently sit second behind Bayern Munich.

They also have players such as former Chelsea duo Kevin de Bruyne – outstanding this term – and Andre Schurrle already at their disposal. In short, they’re a team that looks to be on the rise.

However, last week’s 4-1 humbling by Napoli in the Europa League proved that they’re still in need of a touch more stability defensively, something that Skrtel could certainly provide.

The Slovakian has been outstanding so far this season, establishing himself as the leader of the Reds’ defensive pack, regardless of whether we’ve been using a back three or a back four.

According to the Mirror, both Swansea City’s Ashley Williams and Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson are being eyed up as potential replacements for the 30-year-old, so let us be the first to say… no thanks!
