It’s a result that leaves lagging behind fourth place Manchester City, who must now slip up at least three times between now and the end of the season, even if we win all of our remaining games.
There were positives to take from today – most notably the performances of Dejan Lovren and Jordon Ibe.
The former has received plenty of criticism so far this season but looked more like his old Southampton-self today, with his crucial late clearance ensuring that we didn’t lose.
We all know the huge potential Ibe has and the youngster continued his impressive form on his return from injury with another good afternoon’s work. His second-half strike, which hit the post, was the closest we came to breaking the deadlock.

Fair play to Lovren. Been hit with criticism from his own fans and he was the one of the only ones who showed up today

Breathtaking bit of pace and power from Jordon Ibe after a smart one-two with Mario Balotelli. The former’s left-footer denied by the bar

Jordon Ibe started again today for Liverpool. He might have an outside chance of going to the Under-21 Euros. Good young player
