We’ve all heard the one about Liverpool and Manchester City’s James Milner – in fact some fans have been quite vocal on that particular rumour – but in an intriguing twist, reports are suggest we also want another City reject.

According to the Daily Star, the Reds are now eyeing up out of favour centre forward Stevan Jovetic. It’s certainly not a rumour that will inspire much in the way of excitement, especially considering his Daniel Sturridge-esque injury problems over recent seasons.

We all know that Brendan Rodgers’ is on the lookout for a new centre forward this summer. He said as much in his recent comments in The Guardian, when he bemoaned his lack of a player that can perform “at a top level every week”. It’s therefore only to be expected that the tabloids are going to link us with every player under the sun.

As striker rumours go however, this definitely is one of the worst. The 25-year-old has scored just 11 goals in two seasons at the Etihad Stadium, with only 28 Premier League appearances to his name. He was left out of the club’s Champions League squad back in February in favour of new signing Wilfried Bony and is very much a last resort.

Making a player with that kind of CV our ‘No.1 striker target’ – as the Star puts it – is nothing short of ridiculous, and we simply can’t believe it to be true. The Montenegrin is still valued at around £16m, money we simply cannot spare in a summer where we must ensure that we do good business in the transfer market.
