The 34-year-old has spent 17 years as part of our first-team, but will leave the club at the end of the season to begin a new chapter in a book that is already filled with incredible and unforgettable moments.

Today’s defeat to Crystal Palace has already been forgotten, as the post-match events focused on celebrating Gerrard’s career.

The legendary midfielder revealed (via BBC Sport) after the game that playing at the famous ground has given him more joy than he would ever imagine when his career began in 1998, and it will be hard to tear himself away at the end of the season.

“It felt very strange today. I’ve been dreading this moment because I’m going to miss it so much. I’ve loved every minute, and I’m devastated I’m never going to play in front of these supporters again,” he said.

Picking a favourite moment is nearly impossible for someone with such an extensive catalogue of clips to choose from, but the skipper suggested that making his debut was the highlight.

“It’s very difficult to pick one moment. The very first time I ran out in front of The Kop, I’ll never forget that. The first time I played for Liverpool was a dream come true. Everything after that was a bonus,” he added.
