Christian Benteke ready to reject Tottenham and hold out for Liverpool move

Christian Benteke is believed to be apprehensive about a possible move to Tottenham this summer. Reports in the Evening Standard are suggesting that the Belgian striker will reject any approach from the North London club as he holds out for his preferred move to Liverpool.

That’s despite claims made by the Daily Mirror earlier this week which revealed that Spurs were determined to land the 24-year-old and were ready to offer Emmanuel Adebayor in part exchange.

According to the Standard, Benteke will turn down a move to White Hart Lane regardless of whether his suitors are able to agree a fee with his current club, Aston Villa.

Benteke remains unhappy with how Tottenham treated him two years ago, when they were again linked with a possible transfer move. Their interest caused the striker to hand in a transfer request, only to find that Spurs were unwilling to match his £25m asking price.

He was left in a very awkward position at Villa Park and eventually agreed to sign a new contract. The whole experience has led to a strong feeling of distrust between Benteke and Tottenham, with the player wary of the same scenario possibly playing out again this summer.

The Standard also states that Spurs are only looking at players with a maximum price of £15m. This is part of a new philosophy from the club’s owners, who are concious of avoiding more high-priced flops, such as Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela.

So what do you think Reds – good news for Liverpool? Or would you be happy to see Benteke move to Spurs?
