West Brom lead three-team chase for Liverpool’s unwanted striker

West Bromwich Albion are interested in taking Rickie Lambert to the Hawthorns next season, according to reports in the Liverpool Echo.

The source states that newly promoted AFC Bournemouth and recently relegated Queens Park Rangers are also interested in the 33-year-old, who turned down a £5m transfer to Aston Villa in February.

Lambert only managed three goals in 36 appearances for the Reds last season and the Echo believes that he is now resigned to moving on this summer, despite a desire to stay and fight for his place with his boyhood club.

The arrivals of Danny Ings from Burnley and Divock Origi from Lille, following the completion of his loan spell, are set to further limit his opportunities and he’s realised that he’s no longer guaranteed a place on the bench, let alone in the team.

So with the Baggies offering Lambert the chance to play for a solid Premier League side that have been rejuvenated since the arrival of Tony Pulis in January, there’s every chance that the former Southampton man could be tempted.

According to the Echo, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini are also likely to be ditched if we can find buyers for the two out-of-favour Italians.
