Huge boost as Sakho signs new long-term Liverpool contract

Mamadou Sakho has somewhat bizarrely been restricted to a bit-part role recently, but that looks like it could soon change. The Frenchman has recently penned a new contract, much to the delight of the fans, as reported by Liverpool’s official website.

Having joined the club in 2013, injuries and questionable selection choices from Brendan Rodgers have seen him out of the side more often than not.

The 25-year-old is arguably our best centre-back, and should unquestionably be starting ahead of Dejan Lovren in central defence. Hopefully he will become a regular in the side as the season wears on, as he has shown when given a chance the quality he possesses.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star was returned to the squad for our Europa League excursion against Bordeaux in midweek, and showed just how badly he’s been missed. He put a Man of the Match performance in against the Ligue 1 side, and has certainly given Rodgers something to think about.

Sakho should be one of the first names on the teamsheet, and hopefully this new contract will see him become a regular fixture in the side.
