Joao Teixeira set for Liverpool home debut this evening

Joao Teixeira has been here since 2012, but the 22-year-old Portuguese starlet has actually never played at Anfield, unbelievably.

He made one appearance in 2013/14 away to Fulham, but hasn’t been given another chance since – spending the season on loan at Brighton last term.

But according to the Echo, he’ll finally get a game tonight against Bournemouth in the League Cup – with Jurgen Klopp keen to rest one of his central midfielders.

James Milner is suspended and Joe Allen will surely return to the lineup, meaning that either Lucas or Emre Can will join Teixeira and and the Welshman in the midfield three if the Echo report is correct.

The youngster (who can’t really be described as such anymore…) is technically excellent and enjoyed a promising pre-season tour of the Far East – but was left out of the Europa League squad by Brendan Rodgers.

The League Cup then is his only realistic opportunity of playing time, and if he’s to unexpectedly stake a claim for a first-team Premier League place, he’ll need to tear up trees this evening.
