(Video) Benteke misses another absolute sitter with last kick of game

Oh Christian.

You’re our leading scorer, you cost us £32 million, you’ve scored some awesome goals so far this season – and yet, you can’t score chances that most people’s grandma would comfortably stick away.

Those of you with a sharp memory will recall his recent late misses against Leicester and Sunderland.

Against the Foxes on Boxing Day he charged up the pitch in a five-on-one counter attack, but somehow contrived to miss. That sounds bad enough in itself, but when you consider Leicester’s “one” wasn’t even their keeper (Kasper Schmeichel had gone up for a corner) it gets a whole lot worse.

Incredibly, four days later he repeated the trick away at Sunderland (though at least this time there was a keeper!). We broke away in the dying moments and the Belgian showed great awareness to beat the offside trap, but he fluffed his lines when it mattered most.

Now, just to prove that things really do come in threes – he’s done it AGAIN!

With the game against Exeter heading towards full-time he was played clean through on goal Pedro Chirivella but pushed his effort wide of the target, failing to even test Exeter keeper Olejnik. Sadly, it was one of many opportunities he spurned during the course of the match.

How much longer will Klopp continue to back the misfiring front-man? Might we even see our boss dip into the loan market for a second time this January?
