Cafu takes to Twitter to salute Flanagan return

In case you missed it, Jon Flanagan made his return to our first-team tonight – a mammoth 619 days since he last made an appearance.

In that time he’s had two knee operations, we’ve had two managers, and we’ve sold Suarez and replaced him with, erm, Rickie Lambert.

The less said about that last fact the better, but joking aside, it was fantastic to see our academy product finally back with the senior squad.

Klopp introduced him the 51st minute, and he got a rousing standing ovation from the Anfield terraces.

The news also caught the eye of his biggest fan – two-time World Cup winner Cafu. Cafu has embraced Flanno’s “Scouse Cafu” nickname, and has tried to be something of a long-distance mentor for the 23-year-old.

The ex-Roma and AC Milan star took to Twitter to salute the full-back’s return:

Whether or not Jon will ever manage to reach the same lofty heights as his namesake is debatable, but it’s great to see players around the world so thrilled to see him finally come through his injury problems.

How long will it be until we see him starting a league game? At least we finally have a bit of back up for Clyne and Moreno, who have soldiered on unsupported for most of the season so far.
