Young keeper could make Liverpool debut tonight

Liverpool fans could get the chance to see Danny Ward for the first time this evening.

We stuck Simon Mignolet in our predicted XI to face West Ham in the FA Cup, but James Pearce wrote in the Daily Post that 22-year-old Danny Ward could get the nod instead.

Ward was recalled from his loan spell at Aberdeen earlier in the month, but has yet to make a first-team appearance for Liverpool.

The Welshman is very highly rated and was exceptional for Aberdeen during the first half of this season, and many Liverpool supporters would hugely welcome the opportunity to see him test his mettle at Anfield tonight.

If Ward really impresses, there will be increased calls for the youngster to be given a proper run in the first-team ahead of Mignolet.

The Belgian has divided opinion all season and, despite his new five-year contract, needs to up his levels to keep his spot between the sticks long-term.

Ward is tall and an excellent shot-stopper, but it’ll be his ability to command his area and deal with longer deliveries that defines his chances of success.
