Flanagan nearing full fitness, according to Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has said Jon Flanagan is close to being fully fit.

Flanagan missed 18 months of football with a double knee operation, and despite impressing when he’s played in recent weeks, he still doesn’t have the levels of fitness that Klopp’s gegenpressing tactics require.

He has played six times since his comeback.

“Of course in the past it was a difficult situation for Flanno because of injury but now it is a good moment and life can go on and the sun shines again, things like this,” said Klopp (via Echo).

“It’s a really good moment for him, very important, and now he can start getting fit because he of course cannot be at 100 per cent. It’s completely normal.

“His break was too long but lately from the pre-season on, he’s then maybe the old one – what he was before his injury.”

Flanagan has been in Tenerife all week with Klopp and the rest of our players who aren’t with their national squads, and the boss is happy with what he has seen:

“In this moment everything is OK, he makes all the sessions. No rest, no special rest for him – really good.”

Let’s hope Jon can prove to be a vital cog in the squad during the remaining games this season.
