Barcelona sent scouts to watch Liverpool’s teenage gem Brannagan

We didn’t quite realise Cameron Brannagan had this much potential…

According to multiple Catalan reports, cited by the Mirror, Barcelona sent scouts to watch Liverpool Under-21 midfielder Cameron Brannagan during our tie against Leicester City’s youngsters earlier in the week.

We won 2-0 and Brannagan was instrumental throughout, although not as impressive as Sheyi Ojo whose performance earned him a spot on the plane to Dortmund.

According to the article, Brannagan impressed La Masia coaches during Liverpool’s game with Barcelona in the UEFA Youth League earlier this campaign and they wanted to check him out again.

The 19-year-old has been used very sparingly by Jurgen Klopp this term, but the German’s openly admired the central midfielder and oversaw his lengthy contract extension at the end of 2015.

All in all, Brannagan’s played three cup games and two in Europe, but is yet to make his Premier League debut.

He’s technically competent and rangy, but still has to bulk out and fill his frame in order to make it physically in England. Barcelona’s attention though is a big testament to his talent, and will no doubt boost his confidence enormously.

Brannagan’s first priority of course should be to force his way into Klopp’s Liverpool plans. He’s unlikely to feature much before the end of the season, but will surely travel with the first-team on the summer tour and will have a chance to show what he can do in various friendlies.
