Liverpool are pouncing on the fact Manchester City are failing to tie youngster Rafael Camacho to a professional contract, ESPN exclusively reports.

The 15-year-old is a star of the Sky Blues Academy sides, and has long been on Liverpool’s radar. City signed him from Sporting Lisbon in 2014, but ESPN suggest he doesn’t want a renewal and we’re doing all we can to snare him as a result.

Camacho is an attacker with three goals to his name for Portugal Under-16s. Just last month, we acquired Diego Lattie from City’s youth set-up as well, with the England youth international deciding to pursue a professional career and learn his trade at Kirby rather than down the road in Manchester.

Signing Camacho would be a real coup for the youth sides. He’s only 15-years-old so wouldn’t feature under Jurgen Klopp for a very long time, but his potential has sent waves around Europe.

Our Academy is jam-packed full of talent, and under Klopp, those good enough will eventually get a chance. The German’s given Premier League debuts to Sheyi Ojo, Kevin Stewart, Connor Randall, Pedro Chirivella and Cameron Brannagan to name but a few.

If Camacho does sign, we wish him all the luck in his development, and urge him to keep his feet on the ground.
