New left-back targeted; more experienced alternative to Premier League teenager

Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs has reportedly emerged as a new left-back target as Jurgen Klopp explores multiple options to replace Alberto Moreno.

The Echo cites Football Insider as claiming that Arsenal will listen to offers for the out-of-favour England international this summer, and that Liverpool are interested.

We are still monitoring Ben Chilwell, but the more experienced Gibbs would represent a safer buy than the Leicester City teenager, who has made only three senior appearances.

The 26-year-old has played over 200 times for Arsenal since making his debut in 2007, and was part of their FA Cup-winning sides in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.

But he lost his place to Spaniard Nacho Monreal last campaign, making just three Premier League starts and thus being overlooked for England’s Euro 2016 squad.

Until we sign one, we are going to be linked with endless left-backs. Some links will be more exciting than others – Cologne’s Jonas Hector remains top of our wish-list.

Gibbs is not going to put bums in seats at Anfield, but he would be a defensive improvement on Moreno and less of a gamble than Chilwell as first choice for next season.
