Arsenal star urges Liverpool linked German teammates to make Premier League switch

Mesut Özil has been talking up the Premier League to his German international teammates recently, and has urged any of them to make the move to England if they have the chance, as reported by ESPN.

The Arsenal man claims the English top flight is the most interesting around, and had nothing but positive things to say about England.

“Definitively. It was always my goal to prove myself at the big clubs abroad. And I only have positive things to say about Premier League if somebody wants to move abroad,” Özil told Sports Bild (via ESPN).

“The league is very interesting, very balanced: The best example being Leicester winning the title. It’s just a lot of fun to play football in England. Indeed, it’s extremely exhausting, but you can relish it.

“If a national team player asks me what it’s like in England, I reply: ‘If you have the opportunity, do it!’ If I were to make the decision to go abroad again, I would definitely do it just like I did it.”

With both Mario Gotze and Jonas Hector linked with a switch to Liverpool this summer (via the Mirror), it’s good to hear that Özil is talking up the Premier League. Hector in particular is badly needed at the club, and as we’re likely to face real competition for his signature we could do with him getting all the encouragement possible.

Gotze hasn’t impressed recently, but we still know he’s a player of real quality. If both players were to join the club this summer it would be great business and would be a real statement of intent to our Premier League rivals.

Özil went on to say that he’s occasionally asked about life in the Premier League by his teammates, and the playmaker claims there are only positives.

“Occasionally. Questions like ‘what’s it like at Arsenal?’, ‘what distinguishes the Premier League?’, and ‘how’s the dealings with media and public?’ are asked. And I can only tell them of my good experiences,” he said.

We obviously don’t want to be relying on an Arsenal player to get our business done, but if Özil can help us secure the signatures of Hector and Gotze then it’s only good news.
