Wage demands could scupper £30m Liverpool deal

Christian Benteke is reportedly set for an Anfield exit this summer, but any potential deal could be scuppered due to his wage demands, according to the Daily Mail.

As the report suggests, we’ve already turned down a £25m bid from Crystal Palace, demanding £30m for the Belgian striker instead. It’s possible that Alan Pardew’s side could come back in for the 25-year-old, but his wage demands may prove a stumbling block.

The Daily Mail claim Benteke is demanding a wage increase to make the switch to Selhurst Park, which seems likely to put an end to any potential deal.

Not only would £30m already be a huge amount of money for Palace, but Benteke’s wages could really cripple them. He’s already the highest paid player at Liverpool on £140,000 per week (via the Daily Star), and an increase on that figure would surely price him out of Palace’s reach.

It’s hard to see who we could see Benteke to if he’s going to demand a wage increase, so we may be stuck with him whether Jurgen Klopp wants him at Liverpool this season or not.
