Coutinho to return to Melwood on Monday; could be available for Fleetwood friendly

Philippe Coutinho will report back to Melwood on Monday to join up with Liverpool for pre-season training, according to the Echo.

The little genius has been enjoying his summer holiday since Brazil were surprisingly knocked out of Copa America in the group stage on June 12.

Coutinho was one of the success stories of Brazil’s disappointing campaign, scoring his first international hat-trick in a 7-1 thrashing of Haiti.

All of Liverpool’s international players were granted three weeks off from their date of their nation’s exit from either Copa America or Euro 2016.

But Coutinho was given an extended break because the Echo understands that Klopp wanted to ensure that he was refreshed after a 43-game season for the Reds.

Coutinho was far from the most used Liverpool player last season, starting only 24 Premier League games, but it is clear that Klopp wants to protect arguably his most valuable asset.

The 24-year-old should be available for Wednesday night’s friendly against League One Fleetwood Town.
