Benteke admits he could have done better during his time at Anfield

Our latest departure Christian Benteke has admitted he could have done more during his time at Anfield.

The Belgian striker, who was bought for £32.5 million by Brendan Rodgers in the summer of 2015, only managed to score ten goals in all competitions, despite playing in 29 league games, six domestic cup games, and seven Europa League matches.

He joined Palace over the weekend for £27 million plus add-ons.

“A lot of things happened at Liverpool – when I arrived it was with Brendan Rodgers as manager but then he was sacked and Jurgen [Klopp] came in and had his own plan, but that’s part of football.

“I could have done better but I think I also needed some trust from the manager and the staff,” he told Palace’s official site.

He also praised Palace’s wingers as one of the reasons for his move:

“I’ve met the manager a few times before I signed and that’s why I wanted to come here. I was really happy to hear about his project and that is why I am excited to come here,

“I did my own research too and there are some great wingers here and because of that I think I can be a success here,” he admitted.
