Pardew backs striker to become “iconic” after Benteke move completed

Posted by

Christian Benteke has officially finalised his move to Crystal Palace.

The fee will be £27 million up front with a further £5 million in add-ons.

The Belgian striker spent Friday and yesterday in London discussing personal terms and having a medical – and thankfully it all went through without a hitch.

Now Palace boss Alan Pardew has been offering his thoughts on their new big-money acquisition:

“It’s great news for us,” he said. “A big signing for the club and he is a good character and an iconic figurehead for us. We lack goals and some firepower and I would think Christian’s arrival will enhance every player within the squad.

“There’s one thing that’s always impressed me about him, he gets the sort of goals you would expect, but now and then he just pulls a rabbit out of the hat with a goal.” (via Echo).
