Klopp defends his starting eleven vs Burton, despite injury blows

Jurgen Klopp has defended the starting eleven he picked vs Burton Albion, despite picking up injuries to both Emre Can and Divock Origi.

It seems like the knocks might keep the pair out of the game against Spurs this weekend, but the German insisted he was right to play them against the Championship side.

“It’s not about rest,” he said. “These boys recover in hours. If you have 50 games in your legs it’s different but it’s not the moment for this.

“We had fresh, high-quality players on the bench. So we could do this (play a strong team). It was not about our opponent, it was about our rhythm.

“The most important stage in early part of season is to get rhythm. We needed to use every minute.” (via Echo).

We’re inclined to agree with the boss. Given the shambolic result against Burnley last time out in the league, it was vital that the senior players found some form and confidence ahead of this weekend’s test.

Spurs have already enjoyed some extra rest after not playing mid-week, so let’s hope that the runout has done the lads some good.
