Midfielder makes return but Woodburn is the star of the show as Liverpool U23s demolish Arsenal

Posted by

Lucas Leiva returned to action tonight as our U23 side thrashed Arsenal 3-1.

However, the real star of the show was young forward Ben Woodburn who scored twice in the comfortable win (via official site).

The victory was a welcome reprieve for Michael Beale’s men after losing the opening two games of the season 4-1 against Southampton and Chelsea.

Brazilian Lucas played 45 minutes – his first action since picking up an injury in our pre-season friendly against Huddersfield Town.

Woodburn put us 2-0 ahead in the first half. The opener was a simple finish after the 13 minutes, but the second was a wonderful bending finish into the top corner.

Chuba Akpom pulled one back for the Gunners midway through the second period, but the game was over when Toni Gomes hammered home our third moments later.

Is Woodburn ready for the first team yet? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
