Liverpool vs Everton. It’s either the biggest or second-biggest game of our season, depending on your stance.

And although the Premier League clash between the two Merseyside giants is still two months away, fans will get an early taste of some derby action this weekend when the Liverpool U23s go head-to-head with the Everton U23s at Prenton Park on Sunday afternoon.

Although our U23 manager, Michael Beale, is desperate to get one over on our local rivals, he has said it’s far more important to see some of our youngsters make the first team when we play Spurs in the League Cup fourth round on Tuesday.

He admits he’s unsure of the players he’ll use, meaning the game tomorrow should offer some great clues about which youngsters will be involved against Pochettino’s men.

“If players don’t play on Sunday, it’ll be for a fantastic reason, that they’re preparing with the first team. So I think there will be changes in the squad,” he said. (Echo)

“We really want to win on Sunday but not more than having players involved on Tuesday (with the first team).”
