Mario Balotelli has joined Nice on a free transfer and thus officially ended his two-year association with the club.
His exit marks a massive loss for FSG, who paid £16 million to make him a Red in the summer of 2014.
It was deemed to be a risk at the time, and after only scoring one league during his stay, it’s safe to say that it was a risk which failed spectacularly.

Unsurprisingly, fans are not exactly mourning his departure on Twitter. In fact, comment of the day needs to go to former player Jamie Carraher, who perhaps summed up the disdain towards Balotelli better than anyone else…
Balotelli on a free is still paying over the odds by Nice.

It was a train of thought that was repeated around the web. Here’s taster of the reaction:
Honestly, heads should’ve rolled over the Balotelli / Eto’o situation. Downright negligence to be left with that choice after losing Suarez.

The fact that I can’t remember Balotelli running or breaking sweat in a Red shirt nevermind score means I’m not too disappointed he’s gone.
