Liverpool to launch £25m bid for Champions League midfielder in January after midweek scouting mission

Transfer rumours mid-September…

Surely the actual football that’s going on is more interesting to report on?

Probably.

But the Express has today published a lengthy piece which claims Liverpool will bid £25m for Mahmoud Dahoud in January after watching the Borussia Monchengladbach ace last week in the Champions League.

The Germans lost 4-0 at the Etihad, but Jurgen Klopp is still reportedly desperate to acquire the talented 20-year-old – with Dahoud not keen on extending his contract which runs out in 2018. By the end of this season he’ll have only 12 months left, meaning his side may choose to cash in while his value remains high.

Still, with the likes of Emre Can and Marko Grujic not currently able to get in our side due to Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana centrally, there’s no immediate need for midfield enforcements…

Dahoud wouldn’t walk into the team in January and we’d be surprised if Liverpool sanctioned such a large deal in the winter transfer window anyway…

Without European football, our squad is quite hefty – so we’d predict if we were to go back in for Dahoud – it’d be at the end of the season; with Liverpool hopefully preparing for a Champions League campaign…
