Simon Mignolet hopeful of ousting Loris Karius for Man Utd visit

Simon Mignolet says he is hopeful of a first team recall when Man Utd come to Anfield next Monday.

The Belgian has been forced to sit on the bench for the last two games after Klopp opted to give new summer signing Loris Karius a run in the first team.

But Karius has not been overly impressive. He’s not done anything particularly wrong, but it’s fair to say that of the two, Mignolet has looked the more assured in the games so far this season. Fans have not yet seen the commanding box-controller we were promised when we signed the German.

“I didn’t play the last two weeks and I don’t want it to be any longer,” said Mignolet. “I look at it positively. I hope to play against United. I still feel confident because of my good league start. Against Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester I have been important for the team by making some good saves,” he said (Echo).

“I have the advantage that the game against United is only Monday so I can have a full preparation.

“I don’t know what the coach will decide. I can just prepare myself 100%. Whether I play or not, nothing will change my match preparation. It is not in my character to not give 100%.”

It’s clear Mignolet has his faults, and it’s clear that Karius has plenty of talent – but is there an argument to suggest that the Belgian would be a safer choice against Mourinho’s outfit?
