Emre Can believes a point against United doesn’t do his side justice

Reds midfielder Emre Can believes his side were worthy of more than a point from Monday night’s dull draw against Manchester United.

The German did have the chance to put Liverpool ahead in the second half after he bulldozed his way into the penalty area before getting the ball out of his feet just enough to get a strike away, only for goalkeeper David De Gea to make a great save.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “I think we deserved to win.”

“We wanted to win and we gave everything. It’s a bit disappointing but we’re looking forward to the next game now and we have to keep working.”

“It wasn’t our best game but we played better than Manchester United. Their goalkeeper made two great saves for them.”

The fact that a win would have taken us level with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League is what makes Monday’s draw all the more frustrating.

Can’s powerful play and Philippe Coutinho’s long range effort would have most likely beaten any goalkeeper in the league, but not De Gea.

Forget it being a ‘Mourinho masterclass’, United’s shot-stopper was the only thing that stood in the way of us winning.

For that reason, we must move on and continue to believe that this Liverpool side can challenge at the top.
