Jan Molby can’t praise Liverpool’s midfielders highly enough. First it was Georginio Wijnaldum, now he has singled out Jordan Henderson and the impact he has made so far this season.

Henderson has been a prominent figure under Jurgen Klopp in the early stages of the campaign and has dominated the Premier League with regards to his passing statistics.

Molby has highlighted how the midfielder’s contributions differ somewhat from his role during the 2013-2014 season in which Liverpool finished second.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: “The season we nearly won the league [in 2013-14], I thought Jordan had a fantastic campaign playing in a different role, where we saw him making driving runs from deep and getting into the box.”

“Now he has more of a responsible role as he is the man people look for when they are in trouble. He is your out ball and I think he has done very well for us and is an important player in the side.”

The 26-year-old has grown into his duty as Liverpool captain this season and played with more intelligence and maturity.

He has become a reliable figure in front of the back four in terms of his composure on the ball and ability to dictate the tempo of the game.

Not only has he been key in stretching the opposition by working with the ball on both sides of the pitch, but he has also played his part in starting attacks with forward passes from his deeper holding position.

He has added the ability he shows on the ball to his energy and fight in a way that has helped him become a more complete central midfielder.
