Carragher names Liverpool flop ‘most overrated player I’ve ever seen’

The Scouser has claimed the 26-year-old is the most overrated player he’s ever seen, having witnessed the forward close hand during his failed stints in the Premier League with Manchester City and Liverpool.

“I couldn’t believe Liverpool signed him to be honest,” Carragher told Tubes on Soccer AM, cited by the Star.

“Every signing you’re never quite sure, you hope it goes well. You hope they go wrong for certain other clubs when they sign someone.

“But Mario Balotelli, I couldn’t believe we signed him.

“I think he’s one of the most over-rated players I’ve seen in my life.”

For Balotelli’s sake, we’re glad Carragher retired in 2013, one year before Balotelli arrived, as the Italian would have got what was coming to him! No way would an ego like Balotelli be able to strut into Melwood late every morning and think he was above everyone else on Carragher’s watch…

In fairness, the striker has found a bit of form this year after two embarrassing campaigns for ourselves and AC Milan between 2014 and 2016. He’s scored nine goals in 11 Ligue 1 starts for Nice, who we allowed him to join for free – an indication of how badly we wanted him out of the club.

Balotelli always had good things to say about Liverpool’s fans though, and we think he’s probably a nice guy underneath all the rubbish, but playing wise, he was an atrocious fit for Liverpool.

We’re glad he’s found his level in France and wish him all the best.
