The inevitable arrival of new faces in this summer’s transfer window promises a mass exodus of players as a consequence.
Though the future of certain individuals already looks to lie elsewhere, there remains to be question marks over players who simply continue to make a case for the club keeping hold of them.
Lucas Leiva is one man who has been strongly tipped to leave at times this season yet, not for the first time, Liverpool fans just can’t seem to buy into the idea of selling such an experienced figure and remarkable servant to this club.
The Brazilian was outstanding in Sunday’s 1-0 win over West Brom, demonstrating the kind of aggression, leadership and energy in midfield that has seen him become a fan favourite over the past 10 years.
There may not be a regular starting spot for him next season but there will certainly be an important role for him to play, especially if Liverpool do qualify for the Champions League.
Reds have taken to social media to praise him for his performance at the Hawthorns over the weekend.
We can’t let someone like @LucasLeiva87 go. Committed, reads the game perfect and helps the CB out with great cover, need to keep him #lfc
