Steven Gerrard helped host the Champions League Final for BT Sport last night, and was asked after Real Madrid’s emphatic victory what Liverpool’s chances are next season.
Obviously, we have to navigate a potentially tricky qualifying round first, but assuming we get through, our former captain reckons how well we do will be defined by our success in the transfer market this summer.
Gerrard claims that if we capture our top targets (Van Dijk, Keita, Salah, Lacazette), we could do very well, but suggested that while Ronaldo and Messi are still around, it’ll be hard for anyone to usurp dominant Real Madrid or a fired-up, revenge hungry Barcelona.
He’s probably spot on, too. At the moment though, we’re just looking forward to hearing that music at Anfield once again!
