Blunt Wijnaldum: What I hate about Liverpool right now

Gini Wijnaldum despises pre-season almost as much as we do!

The Dutchman has been discussing the gruelling preparations Jurgen Klopp has already put the squad through, following his holidays.

Wijnaldum went viral on multiple occasion earlier this summer for uploading pictures of his vacation, which made him look like a billionaire rapper!

Now though, the hard work has started for the midfielder, who’s keen to improve on his promising debut campaign.

“I’m happy to be back but I hate pre-season because it’s a lot of running,” he began.

“It’s really hard and you don’t enjoy it every time because you want to play with the ball but you have pre-season to get fit and that’s what you have to do.

“For me, it was really important to rest (over the summer) because I played a lot of games last season and I had a few issues with my body.

“What I did at first was relaxing and rest but at the end of my vacation I did some running and the programme they gave me.

“I had a good debut season but of course I want to do better. The most important thing is that we win games and if I can help the team by scoring goals, it’ll make me happy.”

Wijnaldum performed exceptionally in big games last term, like the one on the final day of the season in which he scored to set us on our way against Middlesbrough – but occasionally went missing against so-called lesser sides.

For this reason, Klopp may bring Coutinho into a deeper, more obviously creative position in 2017/18, meaning Wijnaldum will have a fight on his hands to keep his spot in the side – especially with Jordan Henderson returning to fitness.

Naby Keita is a target and Adam Lallana has reinvented himself as a central midfielder too – meaning LFC could have a rasp of exciting central midfield options by the beginning of August.
