The offer Barcelona have made for Thomas Lemar…

Barcelona failed in their bid to sign Coutinho, failed to usurp us for Naby Keita and have now went in for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, too.

We lodged a bid of £75m plus Divock Origi on loan for the 21-year-old attacker, but Barca’s offer is significantly less impressive – claims a trusted Monaco source.

The Principality club haven’t responded to our club record amount, yet, and a report in the Mirror claims we haven’t sent delegates to France to conclude a deal, contrary to noises this morning.

The Spaniards are proposing sending a player on loan, but will pay just €60m, around £55m – which is the amount Liverpool initially bid and got rejected.

We’re closing in on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, suggest the Echo, and it yet remains unclear whether the Englishman is being targeted alongside Lemar or instead of.

The younger Frenchman is the more impressive performer and will cost double what the Englishman will – but there’s a chance Liverpool could want to secure both with the aim of competing in four competitions this term.

Virgil van Dijk is a more important target than both, but the Dutchman is training with Southampton and as of yet we haven’t approached the Premier League club – having promised to only go back in for him should the Saints give the green light.
