LFC legend predicts questionable lineup swap vs Tottenham

Anfield great Jan Molby admits he expects Jordan Henderson to reclaim his place in the starting lineup for Sunday’s clash with Tottenham.

The Liverpool skipper was on the bench for Tuesday’s 7-0 Champions League win over NK Maribor, with James Milner being handed a rare start.

Despite Milner’s standout performance, Molby believes Jurgen Klopp will revert to putting Henderson at the heart of his midfield trio.

“What the selection in midweek told me was that there’s still something with Jordan Henderson. He still needs to be looked after and managed between games,” Molby wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo.

“But I’d be amazed if it wasn’t Jordan Henderson starting at Spurs.”

“Milner has a lot of energy and gained a lot of experience in big games but I’ve a feeling he’s been left a little on the sidelines and I’d doubt if Spurs away is the game to change that.”

Milner’s display has given Klopp an unexpected selection dilemma ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Wembley.

That said, his lack of game time makes it likely the Reds’ boss will put his faith back in the club captain, who should be fresh after being rested against Maribor.

A midfield containing Milner may be something to look into, however, with Emre Can having been far more influential without Henderson beside him towards the end of last season.

The experience and work ethic Milner offers has been made even harder to overlook after his midweek showing, especially heading into such an intense and high-calibre contest.
