Former Premier League striker Brian McBride, who used to score goals for Fulham, if you recall, has encouraged Christian Pulisic to sign for a club like Liverpool or Real Madrid ahead of Manchester United.
This is because he reckons the Spanish giants and ourselves play a better style of football than United, for whom Pulisic would struggle due to them having less of the ball.
The 19-year-old currently plies his trade for Borussia Dortmund, but is a phenomenal talent and has the potential to develop into a truly world-class operator.
Liverpool have cooled our interest in Thomas Lemar and Pulisic could be the primary alternative option.
McBride thinks it’s a good idea, anyway.
“It all depends. Choosing for him a club that would help him develop his style and his skill-set is going to be a necessity. When you talk about some of these bigger clubs, they don’t necessarily play the same type of soccer they play in Dortmund,” he said, cited in the Echo.
“The thing that’s always in the back of your mind is the desire to play at one of the biggest clubs – they are monster clubs, all of them are – and the fun of moving to a different club and working through the process of making it there.
“I would make sure the club plays the style of soccer I play. If you’re going to Manchester United, you know you’re not going to be on the ball nearly as much as you are at Liverpool or Real Madrid.”
Pulisic is a boyhood United fan, annoyingly, which we think would probably play a part in making his decision if Jose Mourinho was genuinely interested.
They would also offer bigger wages, but Klopp’s worked with him before and has shown he can sell Liverpool to the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk ahead of Chelsea, Barcelona and Manchester City respectively.
So under the German, anything’s possible.
