Liverpool’s first day of pre-season training always promised to entail a Naby Keita and Fabinho-cam as the pair officially began their careers as Reds.

Both men are part of a 26-man group expected to report for the team’s first day back at Melwood following the completion of their respective summer moves from RB Leipzig and Monaco.

Keita himself has already tested the waters of his new training ground having requested a session with fitness coach Conall Murtagh last Wednesday.

The next six days will display whether the pair will be ready to feature in the club’s pre-season opener away to Chester on July 7.

Keita was the first to arrive out of the two, with Jurgen Klopp welcoming back his men in three groups of nine, nine and eight.

Their first day will involve motion tests, lactate testing and assessments in the rehab gym as the club monitors fitness levels on the back of their break.

Following the trip to Chester, the Reds will face three further friendlies on home soil against Tranmere Rovers, Bury and Blackburn Rovers.

They will then compete in the International Champions Cup in America with Manchester United, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, before facing Napoli in Dublin and concluding their preparations at home to Torino.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, Dejan Lovren, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Simon Mignolet and Marko Grujic all remain absent due to their involvement at the World Cup.

Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum will also be missing on the first day after being granted an extended break having played in a friendly for the Netherlands at the end of last season.
