Liverpool really could do crazy business with Barca

We almost scoffed when Simon Mignolet was first linked to Barcelona, but it really does now look like a possibility…

Sky Sports are claiming that the interest of the Spanish champions is 100% genuine and that Barca want our 30-year-old Belgian to backup Marc-André ter Stegen next term.

Mignolet’s agent speaks out on future after £65m Alisson signing

Mignolet is totally surplus to requirements at Anfield, after losing his place last season and with Alisson arriving for £66m to become the world’s most expensive keeper…

But what’s interesting is that it was assumed Mignolet would leave to play first-team football, with Turkish outfit Besiktas also interested and able to offer him that.

For Mignolet, providing each club offers the same money and Liverpool allow him to speak to both, he has to decide whether he wants the glamorous move or guaranteed minutes.

It’s unlikely to be an easy decision – as a switch to Barcelona and their likely higher wages would be difficult to turn down – even for a keeper bored of sitting on the bench.

Either way, he’s been left out of our training squad currently practising in Evian – and won’t feature in pre-season.

He’s been a loyal servant, but it’s best for everyone if we now part ways.
