Gini Wijnaldum has been a real positive influence on our season so far. In our opening three wins, he played as a no.6, anchoring the midfield, and received plaudits for the manner in which he did it, too.
Against Leicester last time out he was used in a more advanced position due to Jordan Henderson’s return to the side, but was still decent.

For his national side though, Wijnaldum was hauled off at half-time last night, with Netherlands losing 1-0 to Peru at the time. They went on to win 2-1, but Dutch fans on Twitter lamented the fact Gini wasn’t putting in the kind of performance he does at club level.

Virgil van Dijk also played, as he skippers Holland. Our brilliant defender plays alongside Ajax youngster Matthijs de Ligt, who’s still a teenager.
Both van Dijk and Wijnaldum will return to Melwood, as the Netherlands have no more international fixtures until October, when the curse of the international break strikes again!
