Egyptian sculptor Mai Abdel’s recent statue of Mo Salah went viral this week, and probably for the wrong reasons.
Much the way the infamous Cristiano Ronaldo bust was turned into an internet meme last season, the Salah statue has become somewhat of a joke as well.
When this happens, few think of the original artist, but Salah did.
Our no.11 took time to contact Abdel and she explained what he said via a Facebook post.
“International and our hero Captain our player Mohamed Salah personally contacted me just now and encouraged me to continue. He asked me not to pay attention to the negative comments and told me that I am a very good artist, ️️and asked me to take my time in the work of a new statue to put him in his home.”
Well played, Mo. It’s this kind of behaviour that has earned him so much respect for his actions both on and off the pitch.
Salah is revered in his home country and his stardom in Egypt will only grow as his career does.
This term, the 26-year-old is on seven goals, but we hope he adds to that tally against the Premier League’s worst defensive outfit, Fulham, on Sunday.
Liverpool take on the newly promoted side at 12 ‘o’ clock, knowing nothing less than a win (and a good performance) will be regarded as acceptable.
