Liverpool were last night linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic by a very good source.
Matt Law of the Telegraph penned a piece that claimed the Germans will sell the American at the end of the season, but would be happy to agree a future deal in January if a club coughs up £70m, with Chelsea and ourselves the most prominent suitors.
The American’s contract is up in 2020, meaning that by the end this campaign, he’ll have just one year left on his deal – so on January 1 2020, just 13 months away, he’d be available for any English clubs to sign on a free.
That figure makes us believe the £70m BVB want is highly unrealistic. We reckon that given the youngster’s contract situation, and the fact he can’t get in Dortmund’s team at the moment, Pulisic is worth between £40m and £50m.
For this money, we’d be all for Liverpool securing a future transfer, which would enable Pulisic to join up with the club at the start of pre-season and bed himself into the squad ahead of the 2019/20 season.
Of course, there’s no guarantee Jurgen Klopp is still interested in the playmaking prodigy.
He may have his eye on another elite creative midfielder; someone not yet in the public radar.
Here’s what fans had to say on the news, anyway…
£70m for a player with one year left on his deal? Grow up. https://t.co/jTRfv3MPzw

Is Pulisic worth £70M?

I am all for this. The money will be made up back with marketing opportunities in the US by American ownership. Klopp is a fan and gave him his debut trainings. Still only 20. Plays 10 for USMNT. https://t.co/QX21LM8EJt

Liverpool’s deal with New Balance ends in the summer of 2019. Imagine the interest it would attract from Nike if Klopp signed Christian Pulisic simultaneously with the negotiations for a new shirt sponsor. And the money it could generate…

Seeing a lot of complaining about Pulisic potentially being £70m
If Klopp/Edwards don’t believe that he is worth £70m then they won’t pay £70m for him. They’ll negotiate it down or pull out entirely.
If they do believe he is, Klopp has proven he knows who’s worth money.
